DIY Hairstyling: Achieve Salon-Worthy Looks at Home

Who says you need a salon visit to achieve gorgeous hair? With a little practice and the right products, you can create stunning hairstyles at home! At Tangerine Salon, we're all about empowering you to love your locks, and that includes giving you the tools to style them yourself.

1. The Effortless French Braid

This timeless braid adds a touch of elegance and keeps your hair out of your face.

  • What you'll need: Brush, hair tie, Aveda Smooth Infusion Style Prep

  • Steps:

    1. Apply Aveda Smooth Infusion Style Prep to damp hair for added manageability.

    2. Brush hair back smoothly and gather a small section near your temple.

    3. Divide this section into three equal strands.

    4. Take the rightmost strand, cross it over the middle strand and place it between the middle and left strand. This becomes your new middle strand.

    5. Repeat step 4, continuously taking a small strand from the outside of your right section, crossing it over the middle, and incorporating it into the new middle section.

    6. As you braid, gradually incorporate hair from the top of your head into the right section, keeping the braid woven close to your scalp.

    7. Continue braiding down the head, incorporating hair from the sides as needed to maintain a clean look.

    8. Once you reach the end, secure the braid with a hair tie and gently tug on the sides to loosen it slightly for a more relaxed look.

2. The Messy Bun Updo

Perfect for any occasion, this updo is both stylish and comfortable.

  • What you'll need: Brush, bobby pins, hair elastic, Aveda Dry Shampoo

  • Steps:

    1. Apply Aveda Dry Shampoo to roots for added volume and texture (optional).

    2. Brush hair back loosely, gathering it all at the crown of your head.

    3. Twist the hair loosely into a bun and secure it with a hair elastic.

    4. Gently pull out strands around the face to frame it and loosen the bun for a more relaxed feel.

    5. Use bobby pins to secure any loose pieces and ensure the bun stays in place.

3. The Beachy Waves

Embrace the effortless summer vibes with these natural-looking waves.

  • What you'll need: Curling iron or wand, heat protectant spray (Aveda Nutriplenish Leave-in Conditioner), hair clips

  • Steps:

    1. Apply heat protectant spray to dry hair.

    2. Section hair into manageable pieces.

    3. Wrap 1-inch sections of hair around the curling iron or wand, holding for a few seconds.

    4. Alternate the direction you twist the hair for more natural-looking waves.

    5. Use hair clips to secure the curls while they cool down.

    6. Once cool, remove the clips and gently tousle the waves with your fingers for a relaxed texture.
